The site was set up in early 2000 by Jason Powell a graphic designer and local musician who noticed a distinct lack of information when trying to find fellow musicians to form a band and not much in the way of local magazine styled websites. After several redesigns the site has now evolved into its current version.
Jason was joined by Karl Bilby in 2003. Jason and Karl now co-run the site with Karl in charge of content and making coffee. Over the years MM has been a vehicle for many things that has helped unsigned music in Liverpool. Essentially Merseymusic's core activities were reviewing bands, either live or demos. Hundreds of bands have passed through the swinging MM door, many have been praised, some have had a tongue lashing. We have had our own MM showcase gigs across Liverpool each one memorable for different reasons! MM has pushed the boundaries with the local media and has pushed bands into the spotlight through various cunning ways. Also radio has been a friend and getting airplay to new bands is always at the forefront of new ideas. Most recently the Sound Garden was created, a 3 hour show broadcasting unsigned music only which was broadcasted on KCR FM.
